Gravity: The Story of the Breast that Needed a Lift

By far the biggest misconception in patients seeking breast augmentation surgery is whether a breast lift is also needed. I have been trying to explain and clarify this point kindly, medically, visually with pictures and videos. But I still get the same disappointed look when I tell patients that implants will not raise the breast, nor will they create eternal fullness on the top part of the chest. I am a big John Mayer fan so as I was listening to his song "Gravity" one day I thought I should try to get this point across in song.

Breasts are subject to gravity every day, all the time. The more natural breast tissue a woman has potentially the saggier she gets with time. Flat chested woman with tight skin are the only woman that turn out predictably high and tight after a breast augmentation procedure.

The breast implant is placed under the muscle in most cases. But eventually the implant will find the bottom of the breast and remain there. The lower the bottom of the breast skin the lower the implant sits. With time, gravity and the weight of the implant and the patient's skin and genetics will bring the breast mound lower on the chest.

Patients who do undergo a lift have to be warned that the larger the implant, the more weight is on the newly lifted breast. How long a breast stays lifted is the million-dollar question. But one thing is for sure; very large implants bring the lifted breast lower on the chest, faster.
