Perlane® is manufactured by Medicis Aesthetics Inc., the same company that manufactures Restylane®. Perlane® is essentially the same product as Restylane®, both are composed of hyaluronic acid, (HA). Perlane® has larger gel particles containing a larger concentration of HA and is intended to be injected deeper within the skin. Perlane® is usually used for larger folds and deeper wrinkle correction.

Perlane® is make from non-animal stabilized HA, NASHA) gel. This means that Perlane® contains no animal proteins. Because HA is a natural substance found in the skin and other tissue, there is no requirement for a skin test when using Perlane®.

The HA in Perlane® supplements the body’s natural supply which becomes depleted with age. Perlane® is biodegradable so its’ effects are not permanent. Treatment results with Perlane® tend to last a little longer than Restylane®, generally about 6 to 9 months.

Procedure

• Treatment with Perlane® takes about 45 minutes and is an in office procedure.
• Just like Restylane®, Perlane® must be used with caution in darker skinned patients as it may result in hyperpigmentation, (darkening of skin color) which may take several weeks to correct.
• The most common side effects are redness at the injection site, swelling and bruising which is generally resolved in a week.
