A favorite in the office of Dr. Stefanacci, Juvederm® provides a natural look and is gradually absorbed by the body. It is one of the newest fillers on the market and, like Restylane®, it is comprised of hyaluronic acid, HA.  Juvederm® is distributed by Allergan, the company responsible for Botox®.

Product Highlights of Juvederm®

• Juvederm® is manufactured differently from other HA fillers and has a smooth consistency attributable to a proprietary process known as Hylacross® technology. This smooth consistency is in contrast to the granular consistency of other HA fillers like Restylane® and Perlane®.
  
  

• Juvederm® uses a high concentration of cross-linked HA which creates a dense network of “bridge” like bonds between different molecules of HA. The resultant larger molecules are reputed to be more resistant to reabsorption and therefore result in a longer lasting dermal correction.
  
  

• Juvederm® does not contain animal proteins so it does not require a skin test; therefore no allergic reactions are expected.
  
  

• Results are immediate and natural looking and “downtime” is relatively short, but, as with any cosmetic procedure, depending on the patient, some redness and swelling may persist for up to seven days. Bruising is also a possibility. Topical and local anesthetics are used to ensure patient comfort during the procedure and most patients report very little discomfort post procedure.
  
  

• Juvederm® is the only injectable dermal filler FDA approved to last over a year and the only HA dermal filler that has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in patients of all skin types and colors.

The procedure takes about 45 minutes and is an in-office treatment.

Product Types

There are two configurations of Juvederm® are available to patients:

• Juvederm® Ultra - is less dense and more appropriate for medium depth wrinkle correction, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines), lip augmentation, forehead wrinkles, glabellar lines, obvious mild to moderate nasal furrows and cheek wrinkles.

• Juvederm® Ultra Plus - is more extensively cross-linked, resulting in a more robust product effective for deeper, more pronounced facial folds and restoring volume to the cheeks and lips. Juvederm® is often the treatment of choice in the office of Dr. Stefanacci for lip augmentation because of its soft and natural feel. Patients are delighted with the results and are very pleased with the longevity.
