Maureen Barrett has been licensed as a registered nurse in California since 1982.  Her experience is extensive and varied and includes emergency medicine, critical care, oncology and plastic and reconstructive surgery.  She worked at Sequoia Hospital, in the San Francisco Bay Area, for 15 years before turning her attention to cosmetic medicine.

In the late 1980’s, as a registered nurse with a background in art, she became intrigued by the idea of permanent makeup and reconstructive tattooing but was disappointed by the harsh and unnatural look.  Cosmetic tattooing was in its infancy and the results were often hard and artificial looking.

In 1996, through the offices of prominent plastic surgeon, Dr. Donald Laub, she discovered the natural looking results that could be achieved with permanent makeup.  A career in cosmetic medicine allowed her to combine her artistic talent with her medical abilities.
